Joseph Hensler, Jr. was born in Newark, new Jersey. He was the son of Joseph Hensler, a Newark brewer. In 1891 the senior Hensler admitted his sons Joseph Junior and Adolph F. into partnership and renamed the firm the Joseph Hensler Brewing Company. The brewery flourished under the guidance of the Hensler family for decades afterwards. It survived Prohibition and Repeal, finally closing its doors in 1958.
