Johannes W. Frank was born in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. In 1864 he set up a brewery/bakery stand in Grass Valley, California which eventually became the Washington Brewery. He died on the 20th of April, 1883 at the age of 59 years. His brewery was continued by his wife and sons until National Prohibition shut its doors in 1920.
