A true pioneer lady brewer, Frédricka Soulé (née Dockter) was born in Sessenheim, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. She married Jean Pierré Sebastien Soulé in New Orleans in 1853 and at about that time he (or they together) established a brewery on the corner of Port and New Levee. Sebastien died in January of 1867 leaving 36 year old Frédricka with a brewery to run and two children under ten to raise. But she did it for 21 more years, selling S. P. Soulé's Celebrated City Beer right up until she handed management over to her son in 1888. Frédricka Soulé died on the 13th of September, 1915. She was 83 years of age.
