August Theodore Breidt was born in Pforzheim, Baden, Germany to a family of brewers. The Breidt family emigrated to America in 1865. They consisted of August, brothers Friederich and Victor and sisters Marie and Emilia Louisa. They all settled in Essex County, New Jersey. August practiced the art of Jewelrymaking while his son Peter worked as a bookkeeper in his brother Frederick's saloon. When Peter purchased a partnership in an Elizabeth, New Jersey brewery in 1882 August followed him to that town and set to work at the brewery.
August Theodore Breidt died on the 10th of March, 1898 at age 78 years.
