Monroe Eckstein was born in New York, NY. in 1874 Eckstein started a brewery in Middletown New York. After about a year he ended the operation and moved to Staten Island where he purchased a brewery owned by Joseph Setz. The Monroe Eckstein Brewery outlived the brewer, who died on April 14, 1895. The brewery came back in name only after the repeal of Prohibition. Its legal operations ending with the adoption of the Volstead Act.
