Herman Balthazar Scharmann was born in Giessen, Germany. In 1873 he and Charles Gluck partnered to form the Gluck & Scharmann Brewery in Brooklyn. Mr. Scharmann died only a few months after Prohibition closed his firm, on August 3rd, 1920.
