Gerald Garnett was an Iowa farmer, born this day in Wyreside, Lancashire, England in 1853. He emigrated to America as a 28-year-old, and settled in Buncombe County, Iowa. In 1884 he began brewing in the Germania Brewery in LeMars. Although there was little appetite in Lemars for the Temperance movement, brewing in Iowa during the 1880s was difficult, and rarely profitable. Garnett quit the brewery business some time in the late 1880s and went back to England. He died there in 1929.
