Charles (Carl) August Luke was born in Dahlhausen (Bochum on Ruhr) Westphalia (Prussia). C. A. Luke was a prominent citizen of frontier Phoenix. in 1879 he partnered with Joseph Thalheimer to open the Arcade Brewery. The brewery boasted the first brick building in Arizona Territory. Luke died on November 21, 1899 at age 67 years.
