Description

Peter, Frank and Reily Mentor immigrated west in 1853. Scouting a new homesite, they staked claims in the Zumbro Valley, then journeyed back to Pennsylvania. A year later they brought family, friends and supplies to the wooded valley of the Mdewahanton Sioux Indians. Later that summer J.B. Hubbel and John Shober started the first trading station that was replaced by a stone dwelling that currently houses the Rouhoff Garage.

The Hubbel House was saved from demolition in 1930 by Mantorville's Walter Stussy who paid $700 and staked Irene and Paul Pappas to a home on the second floor and a supper club below.
