William Lehmkuhl was born in Bavaria. He was one of the brewing pioneers who followed the gold rush to Central City, Colorado back in the 1860s. His brewery was carried on by his family for over 30 years, finally ceasing operations in 1897. Lehmkuhl died on June 17, 1893.
