Frank J. Ruhstaller was born in Einsiedeln, Switzerland. In 1865 he emigrated to America and settled in Sacramento California. He got a job in the St. Louis Brewery on G Street. In 1869 he was working at the Pacific Brewery at P and 9th. By 1875 he was running his own saloon at 118 K Street. In 1881 he partnered with Frank Schuler to purchase the City Brewery at 12th and H Streets. He ran the brewery until his death on October 28, 1907. He was 60 years of age.
