David Crichton, the founder of the Crichton Brewery of Ogdensburg, New York, was born in Perthshire Scotland.
He emigrated to America with his brother Thomas and settled in Johnstown, New York, where they carried on the business of distillers. Later they removed to the village of Ogdensburg where in 1827 the brothers established a brewery east of town on the shore of the St. Lawrence River. When Thomas and David died in 1853 and 1856 respectively, their brewery passed to David's two sons David John and Thomas.
