Julius Keer was born in Emmerich am Rhein, Germany. His father was a bookbinder. When he was 20 years old his family emigrated to Newark New Jersey where they continued the bookbinding business. Some time in the 1860s Julius branched out in to the saloon business. Then in 1867 he partnered with William Knecht to form a brewery. The brewery closed in 1870. Julius Keer died on March 24th 1901.
