John Pforr was born. Not much is known about Mr. Pforr other than he was a saloon owner-turned beer brewer. In 1888 he started a weiss bier brewery in Chicago. Unfortunately he died just four years later on Christmas Eve 1892. His wife Catherine continued the business until her death in 1899, at which time ownership passed to their son, John E. Pforr who managed the brewery until it closed in 1908. The Edward J. Birk & Bro. Brewery purchased the idle manufactory in 1910 and closed it in 1912.
