J. Adolph Henry Lorenz was born in Saxony, Germany. in 1850 at age 23 he emigrated to America through Baltimore. He settled in Crawfordville, Indiana where he began work in a brewery. Three years later he purchased that brewery and ran it until business reversals forced its closure. On April 20th, 1870, at the age of 42, Lorenz jumped off a bridge into Sugar Creek and drowned.
