Sebastino Didas was born in Tholey, St. Wendel, Germany. in 1847 at age 28 he emigrated to America, landing in New York. He settled in Steuben County, NY, and entered the brewing business. He established his brewery in Wayland, New York in the late 1850s and over time incorporated his children into the business. When he died at age 57 on March 15, 1870, his 25-year-old son Nicholas took over the firm. The brewery operated for another twelve years under his management until 1882, when Nicholas retired and became a farmer.
