Henry Macke was born in Hanover, Germany. He was one of two children born to Christian and Dorotha Macke (nee Vesperman). At age 14 he came to America with his parents and brother. They settled in Potosi, Wisconsin where they became farmers and butchers.
In 1872 Henry purchased the British Hollow brewery from Samuel Stephens and William Mohrenburg for $12,000. He ran the brewery for ten years before selling it to Joseph Vogelberg. Macke returned to farming in Potosi.
Henry Macke Sr. died on April 29th of 1924. He was 81.
