Unusual factory scene postcard showing the ruined Oland's brewery after the Halifax Explosion on December 6, 1917. The tragedy occurred when the ship Mount Blanc collided with the Imo causing a fire which quickly grew out of control. Unbeknownst to the sightseers gathering on the shore the Mount Blanc was carrying 2400 tonnes of high explosives for the French forces in WWI. The resulting blast was the largest man-made explosion until the Atomic Bomb. 2000 people were killed and another 9000 were injured.
