The governor of Alaska, a former Christian missionary, orders all of Alaska's breweries and saloons shut down - then like a hero skips town. Anton Peier is one of the few in the business who obeyed this law, albeit not happily. He returned to Seattle before the end of the year, got married and became a laborer. Alaska's temperance law was overturned in 1899. Peier died in 1928.
