Eugene M. Keeley was born. He was the son of brewery owner Michael Keeley of Chicago. In 1888 his father died and the brewery was placed in trust to Keeley's brothers in law Peter J. Hennessey and David McCarthy. The trust was trustworthy and in 1899, when Keeley's youngest son Patrick attained his majority, the trust was released and the brewery was divided equally along the four children. The brewery thrived under the children's management until it was closed down by National Prohibition. Eugene M. Keeley died soon after, on August 18, 1920 at age 47.
