Monday, November 10, 1828   Johann W. B. Meiners

Johann W. B. "John" Meiners was born in Oldenburg, Germany. He fled his native land at age 19 in 1848 in the aftermath of the failure of the leftist uprising against the crown. He emigrated to America and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he met and married Theda Wietjen, a fellow German immigrant from Oldenburg. He entered the distilling trade and practiced it for many years. In the late 1870s he sold his distillery to the whisky trusts and took his profits and formed the Cream City Brewery. He ran the brewery until he died at age 69, in 1898.
