Johann Wilhelm Schwarz was born in Württemberg, Germany. He emigrated to America probably with his parents and settled in Scioto County Ohio. There he met and married a Hessian emigree named Barbara.
The 1860 census shows Johann (John) aged 22 years. He, his wife and two small children were living in a brewhouse in the city center of Portsmouth, Ohio. His estate is listed at $100. They ran the brewery for seven more years.
Schwarz died on the 18th of March, 1867 at age 29.
