Anton Michenfelder, future proprietor of the Bavarian Brewing Co. in Detroit, was born in Weneck, Bavaria. He emigrated to America in 1851 and settled in Detroit. In 1874, at age 36, he established a brewery at Sherman and Rivard Streets. In 1882 he and new partner W. P. Ratigan incorporated the brewery. In 1884 they changed the name to as the Bavarian Brewing Company. In May 1889 Michenfelder sold his brewery to the Goebel Brewing Company. Anton Michenfelder died of apoplexy on August 20, 1908.
