Georg Franz Orth was born in Bavaria. He emigrated to America in 1860 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1863 he married Anna Maria Kaiser, a union that produced eleven children. In around 1868 Francis started a small brewery on 33rd Street below Master Street, and operated it successfully for 19 years. He closed up the brewery in 1887, at which time Orth retired from life behind the beer kettle and went to work as an agent for a hop merchant. Georg Franz Orth died on May 14th of 1909. He was 79 years of age. Of his eleven children nine were daughters and none wanted to take up his father's beer business. His oldest son Georg Jacob became a candy maker in Philadelphia. His youngest, Frank married Anna Marie Vannuefflin (Ann Codee) and together they went to Hollywood and became movie actors.
