Katharina Frank (Nee Lepharts) was born in Offenau, Prussia. With her husband Johannes she established a brewery/bakery in Grass Valley, California in 1864. When Johannes died in 1883 she took control of the brewery and ran it as sole proprietor until her own death in 1892 at age 51.
