William Ebling was born in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany. In 1868 William and his younger brother Philip founded the Ebling Brewery in New York City. The organization would survive both of them by more than 50 years and come out of Prohibition stronger than ever. The brewery finally closed in 1950. William Ebling died on January 25, 1922.

Philip R Ebling was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. In 1868 Philip and his brother William founded the Ebling Brewery in New York City. Philip Jacob Ebling was born in New York City. Son of the Ebling Brewery founder of the same name, Philip Jacob ascended to his father's position upon the latter's death in 1895. Sadly his time as a senior executive in the brewery was to be short-lived. Philip Jacob Ebling died less than a year later on September 26, 1896.
