John Casper Dimler was born in Bern, Prussia.  He was a trained brewer, and emigrated to America late in life, at age 31 in 1853.  He arrived in the port of New Orleans on the 15th of June 1853 after a month-long journey from Bremen.  Thirty-one days later he was pledging marital vows to Anna Elisabeth Meggers in Calumet, Wisconsin, a woman he probably met on the ship.  Their marriage would be blessed with ten children.

From at least 1860 he operated a brewery in the town of Schleswig.  He operated the brewery until around the year 1875, when his wife died.  In his late 50s he remarried to a woman named Sophia, and as small breweries in this era were often husband and wife partnerships, well, things may have become awkward. Dimmler describes himself as a "farmer" in the 1880 census.

John Casper Dimler died on May 2, 1883 at the age of 61.
