Charles Beerman was born in Hanover, Germany. He came to America at age 20 and landed in Charleston, South Carolina with the purpose of selling a collection of rare singing birds to the well-to-do citizens of the antebellum South.

Within two years the endeavor paid off in the form of a sizable nest egg which gave him his start in the New World. He invested it in a retail cigar store in Atlanta, which eventually became a manufactory. The Civil War destroyed the city but Beerman saw opportunity. He rebuilt his cigar business even larger than before. He purchased and rebuilt the Kimball House Hotel. In around 1892 he became the treasurer and president of the Atlanta Brewing and Ice Company.

Charles Beerman died from complications of Bright's Diseased on August 10th of 1896. He was 64 years of age.
